encased in amber

By

i’ve been asleep almost the entire day. when i wake finally – it’s 7:30 pm, and i’m drenched in sweat – i’ve been having vivid dreams again. my eyes are unable to remain open. my entire body, my brain, everything feels as though i’m encased in amber; in it’s final stage before it solidifies forevermore. the only way i’m able to keep my eyes even remotely open is by spinning them nonstop. at the optometrist’s office, they instruct you to [moving only your eyes, not your head] look up and to the left. they slide a loupe and manually hold your eyelid open, while a light shines into your eye. then they repeat this process – to the left, down and to the left, down, down and to the right, to the right, up and to the right, and up, until you’ve come full circle. except the only way i’m able to keep my eyes open is by constantly, rapidly [yet smoothly] going through each of these positions over and over. at some point, eventually my entire body is suddenly filled with pins and needles, tingling head to toe. and then after it subsides, slowly, i’m able to move my body ever so slightly once more.
